    Business Listing Terms

Transparency terms for breeders and businesses advertising on PetTrader — ranking, verification, suspension and data.

Last updated: August 2026. These terms apply in addition to our terms of service when you advertise as a breeder or a business. They set out how our directory works, so you always know why your listing appears where it does.

    1. Who these terms cover

Breeder subscribers, service business subscribers, and anyone paying to publish a news post, an event or a job vacancy advert.

    2. How results are ranked

Search and directory results are ordered using, in this order of weight:

    • Relevance to the search term, species, category and breed.
    • Location — distance from the searcher's chosen area or postcode.
    • Verification status — verified businesses rank above unverified ones.
    • Listing quality — complete profile, logo, photos, opening hours, description.
    • Recency — newer and recently updated adverts rank higher.
    • Reviews — average customer rating and number of published reviews.

Paid subscription does not buy a higher position in organic results. Any placement that is paid for beyond the standard subscription is labelled as "Featured" or "Ad".

    3. Verification

Verification is a check of the documents you supply — licence numbers, insurance, association membership and qualifications. It is not a recommendation, an inspection, or a guarantee of quality. We may withdraw a badge if documents lapse, if information is inaccurate, or following upheld complaints. You may appeal once under our complaints process.

    4. Fees, categories and renewals

Prices are shown on the pricing page. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your dashboard, and extra directory categories are charged per category per month. Adverts run for 60 days; allowances refresh on the same 60-day cycle and unused credits do not accrue indefinitely.

    5. Restriction, suspension and termination

    • We give you a statement of reasons before restricting or suspending a paid listing, unless the issue involves illegality, animal welfare risk or fraud, where we act immediately.
    • For termination of a paid account we give 30 days' notice, except in the cases above or for repeated breaches.
    • You can cancel at any time; access continues to the end of the paid period.

    6. Your data

You keep ownership of your listing content, logo and photographs. You can export your leads and messages by contacting us. On cancellation your public listing is removed; transaction records are kept for six years for UK accounting purposes. See the privacy policy.

    7. Reviews

Reviews are written by account holders. We do not edit reviews or delete them for being negative. We remove reviews that are abusive, defamatory, off-topic or which we reasonably believe were not written by a genuine customer. You may respond to any review and report one for moderation.

    8. Changes to these terms

We give at least 15 days' notice of changes that affect paid listings, by email to the address on your account. Continuing to use the service after that date accepts the change.

    9. Complaints

Business complaints follow the same route as everyone else's — see our complaints and disputes page.
