Our aim
PetTrader.co.uk is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Accessibility is checked as part of every significant change to the site.
What we have done
- Semantic headings, landmarks and a "skip to content" link on every page.
- Full keyboard operation — menus, filters, dialogs and the advert forms.
- Visible focus outlines and touch targets sized for mobile use.
- Text alternatives for images, and adverts require descriptive titles.
- Colour contrast checked against the AA threshold for body and interface text.
- Layout reflows to 320px width and supports browser zoom to 200%.
- Forms use labels, inline error messages and autosave so nothing is lost.
Known limitations
- Photographs uploaded by other users may not have meaningful descriptions — we prompt sellers to describe their animals in the advert text.
- Stripe's checkout and customer portal are provided by Stripe; their accessibility is governed by Stripe's own statement.
- Some older news and event posts may contain non-native formatting from their author.
Assistive technology
The site is tested with recent versions of VoiceOver on iOS and macOS, and with keyboard-only navigation in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.
Tell us about a problem
If something is hard to use, please tell us through the contact page with the page address and what went wrong. We acknowledge accessibility reports within 2 working days and aim to fix confirmed issues within 20 working days. If we cannot fix something quickly, we will offer another way to complete the task — including placing or editing an advert on your behalf.
Enforcement
PetTrader is a private-sector service, so the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations do not apply. We still follow the same standard, and we treat accessibility complaints under our complaints process. If you believe we have discriminated under the Equality Act 2010, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
